We welcome anyone to come to our office with their questions and/or 担忧 so we can help navigate the scope of civil rights with respect to campus policies and procedures.

Section 504 of the 1973 Rehabilitation Act (Section 504) requires schools to make their programs accessible to qualified students with disabilities.

  • 的 1990 Americans with Disabilities Act, as amended (艾达) prohibits discrimination against a qualified individual with a 残疾 who is an employee or applicant, and direct the university to provide reasonable accommodation that does not pose an undue burden.

的 1964 Title VII of the 公民权利 Act (Title VII) prohibits treating someone differently or unfavorably because of that person’s 性. Discrimination against an individual because of 性别认同, including transgender status, or because of 性取向 is prohibited

  • 的 Pregnant Workers Fairness Act expressly prohibits employment discrimination on the basis of pregnancy and pregnancy-related conditions, such as lactation or the need to express breast milk for a nursing child. Generally, employers have an obligation to accommodate pregnant workers.

  • 性别认同: Massachusetts General 法律 (MGL 151B) prohibits discrimination based on 性别认同, which is defined as “a person's gender-related identity, 外表或行为, whether or not that gender-related identity, 外表或行为 is different from that traditionally associated with the person's physiology or assigned 性 at birth.
    • Gender identity is internal and a central part of a  person’s sense of self
    • Gender expression is the external way of defining self and is separate from 性取向 and gender assigned at birth.
  • 性取向: Having an orientation for or being identified as having an orientation for hetero性uality, 双性恋, 或者同性恋
  • Pregnancy: 第九条 of the Education Amendments of 1972 prohibits schools that receive federal funds from discriminating against students on the basis of 性, which includes a student’s “actual or potential” parental, family or marital status and a student’s “pregnancy, 分娩, 假怀孕, termination of pregnancy or recovery there from.”  -- 第九条 Know Your Rights (DOE).

  • Disabled Veteran: A veteran who served on active duty in the U.S. 军事 and is entitled to 残疾 compensation, or was discharged or released from active duty because of a service-connected 残疾.
